You don't have to mess with those bolts on that assembly. When you unscrew the top of the shaft off, the bottom of the shaft should slide out of the ball joint assembly. Then you slip the bottom of the shaft through the hole in the support bracket from below, then slide the ball joint assembly back on from the top. Unfortunately in my case (and I suspect in your case as well) the lower part of the shaft did not slide out. I had to hammer it out, which led to damaged threads, etc. You would think that with the price of the Stillen shifter, it would have better quality control. Oh well, as long as you got it installed. That's what counts.
